There was once a Raja (king) on whose head two horns grew. He hid them under a turban and nobody knew about it, till one day he called for a barber to get his hair cut. Then the barber found out about it, the Raja warned him to not tell anybody. But just as
“Adh ser ke patra main ser nahin samat”
“A 500 ml cup cannot hold a litre”
The barber could not keep the secret to himself so he went and told it to a tamarind tree. Now there were certain musicians who were passing by the tree and they cut it down to make a drum. They went to the city and played the drum, when they played the drum it said -
“Buddhe Nai ne kaha,
Buddhe Nai ne kaha
Raja ke sir per do sing bhaya”
Buddhe Nai ne kaha
Raja ke sir per do sing bhaya”
“The old barber said, The old barber said, Raja’s head has two horns”
The Raja heard about this and he was very troubled. He took the drum from the musicians, left his kingdom and wandered in the forest. One day he climbed up a tree and sat over there when a party of fairies came and began to dance, so the Raja beat his drum for them. The fairies danced for some time and when they were done dancing they asked the Raja "Bhai who are you?", the Raja told his story, and the fairies took out his horns.
Then, the Raja asked the fairies why the drum spoke, they answered
Bhed apno jo kahai kahuson bhar maya,
Bhediya ho jo jiwa biná tan nij kaj nasai.
Bhediya ho jo jiwa biná tan nij kaj nasai.
“He who discloses his secret, when he is overcome by emotions
Will come to ruin even, if he told it to thing which does not have a tongue to speak”
Will come to ruin even, if he told it to thing which does not have a tongue to speak”
