There were once two brothers Eera and Beera making their way through the forest, when came a tiger. The tiger said he would not eat them if they answered a riddle –
“Harad Ubtan Deh malkar, Teeka Kajal Ka Lagwaya”
“Golden skin marked with black”

The brothers answered –“Kehte Ho Bagh, Dikhte ho billai”
“You talk about a tiger, but you look like a cat”

The tiger got very annoyed the riddle was answered, but he had been called a cat and said
"Pehle Main Eera Ko Khaun, Phir Beera Ko Chat Kar Jaaun”
“First I will eat Eera and then I will finish off Beera”

On this the brothers replied –
“Pehle Tere Kaan Marodun, Phir Main Teri Pooch Ko todun”
“First twist your ears, after which break your tail”

And so saying the younger brother Eera, twisted his ears and the elder brother Beera pulled off the tiger’s tail, the tiger was very upset and ran off to all his friends and relatives. Gathering six of his comrades he made his way towards the brothers. The brothers climbed a tree and sat there when they saw so many tigers approach, To be able to reach them the tailless tiger suggested that they climb one on top of other so that they would be high enough to reach the brothers. One over two over three over four, five, six, seven tigers made their way to the tree where the brothers sat. On seeing them approach Beera called out –
“Lao Re Hariyale Daare, Maaro Saat Tarah Se Baare”

The other six tigers are green fodder (Hariyale Daare) for me, and I will thrash the tailless tiger(Baara) seven times.
The tailless tiger was at the bottom and he heard him say that he would be thrashed seven times, he got scared and started to run, when he ran, the tigers on top of him all lost their balance and fell on each other and then they all ran away. The brave brothers’ lives were saved and they made their way out of the forest safely.
